OLD ROAD WINE CO. SPOTTED HOUND 2019

There’s something about the peculiar things in life that have an uncanny knack of delivering a sense of intrigue. It’s those unexpected traits, the left-of-centre personalities, the colourful characters that time and again tease our attention. The very nature of a great wine is its unique ability to deliver something a little different. This set of quirky wines is a side-step into a world of unique characteristics, where individuality from the vine is celebrated through the creation of delicious distinctive wines.

The Sangiovese is grown in the Piekenierskloof, with the Cinsaut, Mourvedre and Carignan all originating from Agter-Paarl. Hand-picked at optimal ripeness from selected vineyards, the Mourvedre grapes are specially source for their soft juicy tannins and opulent fruit flavours. The soils where these vineyards grow are mostly weathered granite, which imparts excellent minerality to the fruit.

In the cellar, the individual components spent 8 months in the finest 2nd and 3rd fill oak barrels, where after they were blended. The result is a wine that shows a slight saltiness on the nose with hints of soft cardamom spice.
